Another good Homecoming game to watch. Both these teams were giving it all they had, which is how this game is supposed to be played. Anything less will not suffice. We got big plays out of each team's top playmakers and solid defense all around. It just always seems like when these two meet, the hits seem just a little harder.

Honestly, I wasn't quite sure what to make of Alco. The schedule was on the light side and so you just could not be sure how good they might be as most of their starters were done by halftime this past month or so. Plus the Keyser game was a debacle so it was hard to tell. Everyone knew in the preseason Alco had a much more veteran team as opposed to the year before. So I believe some of you predicting a blowout in favor of FH at Homecoming should be kicking yourself into reality using hindsight. Alco has a very sound defense, good size and experience up front and Imes at QB is a competitor and an athlete. They are deep at the skill positions. If they can beat Boonsboro and get a rematch with FH, both teams better be ready to strap it on again. The Alco coaches had this team prepared with a solid game plan, especially on defense. The only really big mistake was not covering the first punt of the game.

As for FH, too many spoiled fans out there. Way too many. Beating teams by 5-6 touchdowns has become the norm the past few years and so it's expected now. Not an intelligent rationalization to expect this against very good opponents. When you get into a Homecoming game with a senior-laden ball club (who was 8-1 coming in) you have to expect a four quarter battle. And that's what they got. It's already been pointed out, but it's the FH defense that has really been the big surprise to close out the last part of the regular season, especially the improvement in the secondary and more important the pressure being put on quarterbacks these last three or four games. The defense was quite a big question mark just two months ago. That has to be good news considering the offense has been so productive up to this point. Offensively FH can beat teams with speed or power or by air. Which makes the Alco defensive effort in the second half on Saturday deserving of praise.

It appears both Alco and FH are playing their best football right now. Sure, there are still some adjustments that could be made on both sides but don't confuse that thinking with the fact these two just went at it on Saturday. Amazing what you discover in these situations. The things that worked so well before all of the sudden don't work in this game.

Best of luck to both squads next Friday.

Great post Todd. It was indeed a spectacular Homecoming. While, as others have pointed out, there are no moral victories in Homecoming, the reality is that both programs and their fan bases should be very, very proud. I think they very well MAY be the best two 1A teams in the state.

I always thought each of those 79 games was about the honor of each player who played the game and the memories for their families and friends - making it a pure moral victory win or lose.

The ole fellow that controls that airhorn looks like he enjoys it. I was trying to hear the 50/50 number at Homecoming and every time they announced it....he blew than damn horn! My biggest beef is he blows it when the FH band is playing the fight song! There should be some guidlines for when he can blow it! Is it allowed during playoffs? I forget.

As memory serves, he blows it anyway.

I love the horn, it's as much a part of Greenway as the 52 steps, Stadium Pizza, and Dave Christopher yelling "Hey Fumble."

Sometimes, when I'm down in the dumps, or I can't get myself going, I put on a pair of Red Beats Headphones and listen to alternating train horn blasts and "hey fumbles" I have recorded. I could run through a brick wall, or a paper banner that reads "We Bust Ours to Kick Yours" or "How was the Ride Over?"

Coming down the steps and after a victory. Basically when there is no ball in play. Other than that, I've always hated the FH horn.

When Allegany got theirs... I actually despised the school for a short time. The actual building too. I was racist against native Americans for a short time. I let the air out of the tire of some stranger's RV (camper). It was a dark time.
The pizza kept me coming back though. That melty goodness got me through the lows.

The pizza, hot dogs with mustard, and creamy hot chocolate do in fact keep you coming back for more, like hogs to the trough, despite the fact that Greenway represents a pro-violence "football torture chamber" as pointed out by the sportswriter from Hagerstown.

Imagine the collective good that could be done if, instead of us worshipping a train horn and a giant, hard as steel blue A-Hole, we focused all our energy on bringing back Brewski's and their all you can drink for $ 10.00 night.

Also, it's long past time for Dave Christopher to purposely miss a game to end his streak, in protest over the Board of Education not allowing Native American groups to operate a Casino inside Allegany High School during school hours. Our kids need to learn valuable life lessons like when to hit and when to stay in Blackjack.
