Hancock 48 | Hundred WV 8 Final

I know Hancock is opting out of the playoffs, ( and for good reason), but I just saw on the mpssaa site that they actually moved ahead of Clear Spring in the 1A West point standings.

Ron Hare is from Cumberland and a FH graduate. This year he took over as Hancock Coach.

I confirmed with the MPSSAA. Hancock has opted out of the playoffs. When that happens, the No. 1 overall seed gets the forfeit playoff win. The next team that opts out means the No. 2 overall seed gets the forfeit playoff win.

I am blown away that a team would opt out of the playoffs. It’s a opportunity for your kids to get one more game in. for the seniors they get to play in a playoff game and for the underclassmen it’s more experience . I get the fact that they will not be competitive but the reality is that there are probably only three or 4. 1a teams at the most that will be competitive with Fort Hill. Hell. If Silveroak and maths showed up for the regular season, Hancock should show up for the playoffs . No offense to you Todd. Put your big boy pants on and play the damn game.

We had to sit through horrible scheduling such as Silveroak and maths for years, no offense to you Todd. Put your big boy pants on and play the damn game.
Hancock does not have very many boys in the entire school. The football team is made up of about all the boys with very little experience. The Cumberland Middle School teams would win big against Hancock. It doesn’t make sense for those kids to go up against competitive high schools. Hancock had 13 players last night. You do not want to put 13 kids (many 9th graders and most without football experience) up against FH.

If it were basketball or baseball I would say do it. But football is obviously a physical sport with definite safety concerns. I support the decision by Hancock. The fact they even have a team is a triumph. However, if they did decide to play, I am pretty certain they would get the other team's JV squad most of the game as the JV teams will have completed their season by then. The Allegany, Fort HIll and Mountain Ridge 2nd string would destroy Hancock. And with the small roster numbers, there really isn't much of a second team anymore.

Begs the question, maybe already answered in the past, why don't Hancock and Clear Spring consolidate? They are closer than Westernport and Frostburg.

This was a very hotly debated subject in Washington County over the summer. The recommendation was that Hancock Middle/High (grades 9-12) and Clear Spring High School be consolidated and that Hancock Elementary and Hancock Middle/High (grades 6-8) be combined and move into the current Middle/High building. After multiple public hearings, the WCPS BOE voted against the consolidation.

Here is a link to the BOE website that give some background on the entire process:
