Friendship Collegiate 45 Wilson 0

Wow. Wrong schedule for this year's FH team...

Don't read too much into this game. Wilson is a inner city DC school which very rarely produce a good squad. Friendship begins the season with three DC schools. By the FH game Friendship will be 3-4 or 4-3 and probably struggling.

Friendship is very legit. Their schedule is brutal with DeMatha in particular on the slate so yes I can see them losing a few before FH travels there. But they are #6 in the WP poll for a reason.

While Wilson is a DC public they have for the last 2 years been in the DCIAA title game playing 2nd fiddle to Woodson - who also plays Friendship in a couple weeks. We saw Wilson at the Quad. They are far from terrible.

Allow me to put it another way...nobody is Class 1A is as good as Friendship Collegiate or Melbourne CC. It's good prep for a playoff run.

As I said when the Friendship game was announced, they are going to be good next season - in 2018. They have a Soph QB and Freshman RB, they aren't going to be competitive against the better teams. Every DC public school is on the level of Maryland 1A. Friendship is usually the best team in that league. "Nobody in Class 1A is as good as Friendship Collegiate," is a possibly true statement, but only because 1A has been so bad the last few years. Wilson is not viewed as a good team in the DC area. By the FH game Friendship will be 3-4 or 4-3 and not ranked in the Washington Post poll.

It's going to be interesting to see if FH is playing Friendship next season after they get those young players some experience.

No shame in going 3-4 or 4-3 against the schedule they have... Not even sure you can tell how bad a team is in losing to teams like Dematha and Spalding.. They may actually be really good and still lose to those teams...

I make the same argument every year about McNamara because they basically start every year with 4 losses because they play in the WCAC. They may finish the season 7-4 but the fake Maryland poll has 1A schools (that play an easy schedule) ranked higher than them.

I agree with you about Friendship. I didn't say they were bad. I'm saying with a soph QB and freshman RB, and losing 19 players to graduation, they are going to struggle this year with the better teams. But next year they're going to be much improved. And yes, by midseason they are probably not going to be on the Washington Post Top 20 poll. In the DC area Wilson is not viewed as a good team. The DC City league just doesn't produce a lot of good squads. Talk to any coaches you know in the area and they will tell you the same thing.

It's like its literally physically painful for you to give any credit that may be misconstrued as support for Fort Hill. lol.

Lol, as a fan, I understand you just buy into the spin your coaching staff is giving you. But as a journalist, I have to critically analyze information. And a lot of the stuff (supposedly knowledgeable) people post on here just isn't true.

as a "journalist" why don't you set up an interview with Coach Appel and get some of the answers you are so obsessed with trying to get from a message board?

I love history and probably know a lot more about history than most people. I would call my myself a history buff but I would not call myself a historian. I do collect some things but I have not preserved anything or wrote any papers related to history outside of school work. You say you are a journalist but I have never seen any articles credited to a "BoyznBlue." What newspaper, website, and/or journal do you publish articles in outside of MD Varsity?

I know FH is big deal in Cumberland, but there isn't a huge demand for that interview outside of Cumberland. The Times-News does a good job (on a limited budget) of covering local teams.

I wrote for MD Varsity when they actually used to cover games. That was when Dave was the moderator on this board. He left to run the Maryland Terps football website. After he left they stopped covering games every week and this board became un-moderated.

I took Journalism I AND II in High school and wrote for "The Sentinel". I see we are equally credentialed.

I have no doubt you are a qualified journalist. Personally I have been a working (i.e. paid) journalist for over 20 years.

As I noted, I covered prep sports for MD Rivals for a few years. Here is a glowing piece I wrote about FH (but of course everyone says I hate FH, lol). I actually interviewed Coach Appel postgame (I forgot about that). Unfortunately the links to my articles are no longer available but you can download it here. I have about 30 more of these if anyone is interested:

Currently I cover entertainment for the DC City Paper. Here are a couple of recent pieces:

For the last few years I worked with a D1 college taking pics of football and basketball recruits. I didn't plan on covering high school football this year because my son plays AAU b-ball most weekends, but an opportunity fell into my lap a few weeks ago. So I'm working with a Maryland media outlet doing photography. I will be working in that capacity at the Alco/Dunbar game on Friday.

I also may have something coming out in Allegany Magazine in the near future.

FWIW I saw Wilson play tonight. They are down compared to the last couple years. Lost to a team that they beat 41-0 last season.
