According to the Maryland State Record Book, the previous record for most points scored in the current playoff series (4 games) was 186 scored by Dunbar in 2007. WIth their victory yesterday, Fort Hill scored 197 points in playoff games this year and now holds another state record.

If true that FH broke the record this shouldn't surprise anyone. While watching the Dunbar-Douglas(PG) game today that I recorded the announcers were talking about Douglas breaking the record for most points in a playoff season when they went up 18-0.

Douglass-PG

FH had the record for about 2 hours. Douglass-PG set it in the 2A title game. And for those who said FH would win 2A this year, perhaps (we'll never know for sure) but Douglass-PG was a heck of a team and some have said they might be the best team in the state in 2014, regardless of class. 38-0 over Dunbar in the 2A Championship game. I watched all 4 games and Douglass-PG was the most impressive. They played a competitive schedule against 2A, 3A and 4A PG teams and nobody gave them a game.

You are incorrect sir, and I'm sure just going off of what the announcers on TV said, and they don't know what they're talking about when it comes to records. According to the record book, the record was 186 points scored by Dunbar in 2007.

That being said, this year Douglass-PG scored 38 on Dunbar, 43 on South Carroll, 57 on Patuxent and 45 on Marriott's Ridge. When I went to school, and even now with this Common Core crap, 38+43+57+45 equals 183 points. So at 183, they didn't even beat Dunbar's old record, let alone the record Fort Hill set this year with 197 points (65 against Northern, 56 against North Carroll, 36 on Surrattsville, and 40 on Douglass-BC).

Fort Hill 197 in 2014.
Dunbar 186 in 2007.
Douglass-PG 183 in 2014.

I was just getting ready to correct you, but I see Polk already posted the info.

I believe the confusion lies in which record was broken. Douglass broke the record for the most points in a 14-0 season. FH held that record for two hours until Douglass scored their 18th point in their game Saturday.

FH still holds the playoff only record.

Two rather dominating teams, regardless.

Re: Douglass-PG

Keep in mind, when the announcer stated Douglass had broken the record he also said the record was 160, so he really had no clue. Keep in mind, this is the same group of announcers who said that there was one guy in the stands who was nervous every time Ty Johnson touched the ball and that guy was Steve Trimble because Johnson could break his records. Now, I have no doubt that Steve Trimble had a birds eye view of the game from above with his brother Les, his mother, Coach Lattimer and all the other Fort Hill greats, but he sure as heck wasn't watching from the stands.

Honestly, I think the broadcast was very, very good and the announcers were good. They're at a disadvantage in that they aren't Fort Hill guys ,the aren't Douglass guys, they aren't Dunbar guys, they're just dudes who have to do some crash-coursing before the game to grab some facts. Obviously, nobody from Commercial Video would make the comment that Steve Trimble was sitting in the stands nervous watching the game because they know better, these guys don't know they just read some stuff about a record and a guy named Trimble. So, I'll cut them some slack but they say alot of things that make your daw drop.....did he just say that??

Re: Douglass-PG

Thanks for the correction. I was going off what they said on the broadcast. Actually, I always thought these records should be separated by class.

Douglass PG almost set that record by scoring 611 points this year, but Hereford's 2004 team still holds that record with 637 points. Also, Fort Hill scored 612 points this year, so they are actually number 2.

Hereford 637 in 2004
Fort Hill 612 in 2014
Douglas PG 611 in 2014.

Re: Douglass-PG

I don't think FH or Douglass can hold a candle to back-to-back 4A champ Northwest. Looked like they had 90 kids dressed on the sidelines. I heard they also bought 15 student buses to the title game. Big school thing. Lots of students.

I'm not sure what u mean , but I'll take Franklin over NW and Douglass-PG would give NW a battle!

Hey! My perspective is that this FH team is the Sugar Ray Leonard version. Could Leonard beat Ali? No. So, this team can wear the best ever label as a team, for who they are. This perspective keeps me consistent with Alco's championships being equal no matter what classification they played in.

I don't care about the weight class - as it were - this FH team was a machine and demonstrated the way the game was meant to be played. That is all I can say. And, that comes from an Alco grad. Merry Christmas to all!

Like I said before 1A is open for fort hill and allegany next 10 years douglas gone.....

It all depends on talent and ability to withstand injuries. This was a long season and these kids were true warriors. One tough FH team is all I can say.

Dunbar is 2A for another 2 yrs and Doug 3A. Alco or FH would probably be the favorite next year. Im sure Cambridge or a PG team will be in states as well

Edmonson Westside will be the new city team to deal with, imo. They'll probably have about 4 or 5 new varsity members next year.

I cant trust EW anymore. Last two years they were almost identical talent wise to Doug and lost, this year badly with 8 turnovers. Just another city team with talent but no fundamentals. They'll more than likely win that region now with No Doug but I'm not picking them over a Cambridge or PG region winner until they prove them can be smart with the football
