We all know that the teams in our area for the most part do not want to join a football conference. Being an independent sucks in many ways. The worst has to be scheduling no doubt. What if the Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett County schools were to be in a conference together?

WMAC (Western Maryland Athletic Conference)

Division A

Southern, Northern, Hancock, Clear Spring, Boonsboro, Brunswick, and Smithsburg

Division B

Allegany, Fort Hill, Mountain Ridge, Middletown, Walkersville, Williamsport and Catoctin

You could work it out in many different ways. You have a guaranteed 6 conference games each year with the other members in your division. That would leave you 4 open dates to fill. Given you the oppourtunity of preserving such rivalries as Alco/Keyser, Fort Hill/Keyser, Mt. Ridge/Keyser, etc.

The divisions are mostly aligned with what class the schools are currently in. With the exception of Fort Hill and Allegany being in the division with the AA schools.

I guess we can all wish and hope that one day it might come true. And the reason I didn't include and WV teams in the conference is because I wanted all MD schools. There are two goods things that may force these local schools into playing one another more frequently. 1.) Demise of MVAL 2.) New MPSSAA director

This is a similar concept to the old CVAL that worked and made a lot of sense to me. I like it...

Worst mistake Fort Hill did was dropping out of CVAL!! Now they got scheduling problems every year!

The old CVAL dissolved. The only thing that Fort Hill could have done was to join the league with the WV and Va schools, but they would have had to participate in every sport. As it turned out, that league only lasted two years before folding.

I'm thinking that Md may to to a format closer to what Pa does. That would take care of a lot of problems as far as scheduling weak or strong opponents, and it would force teams in the same section to play each other to get a spot in the playoffs.

I agree with u bleed red. It would solve a lot of scheduling problems. We where spoiled with the CVAL league which took care of a lot of scheduling problems and we need to put together some kind of league to resolve the issue.

Something has to be done... I feel for Todd having to go thru this hassle each year with no guarantee even after he has a game scheduled... FH is very fortunate to have him doing this leg work, as I'm sure they know. "Living in the past", the CVAL was great. We probably took it for granted at the time... Maybe the new commissioner will make it a priority to get this fixed...

I personally think at least 6 games should be mandatory to play in the region.
