Did Alco beat FH again

Hey hey some good ole fashion hate finally on this board. No more QB nets and score clock sales ads to read.

FH won in baseball the last game these two played. See playoff results. Basketball will be this year. That is if the free throw difference isn't 41 shots to 8 in an overtime game.

Yes they did upset them in baseball I forgot that was the first time in a long time and a huge surprise.

It was pretty entertaining game at Campobello last night. Definitely surprised a lot of people, me included. The Graves kid is a real gamer in anything he does. I love what he brings to the table. Brown is a joy to watch in just his athleticism. You don't see that in this area very often. The Jessie kid for Alco had some ice water in his veins with some clutch FT's. I was surprised Alco sat the Barmore kid as long as they did in the 2nd half and OT. He's a big matchup problem. FH had quite a few chances to win the game (2 missed layups late in regulation, dribbling ball off of foot late with the lead in regulation trying to run clock, Jessie stealing ball off of Brown in same situation) but just couldn't get the job done. Hard to find a better bang for your buck than that $5 last night.

The second game at FH will be a good one, even though we know who will come out on top. Red can't beat blue

This is a down yr. for Alco basketball and probably one of the best FH teams in awhile.. Alco still has a decent team but compared to the past few yrs this is the weakest team. These 2 teams look pretty even to me and it showed last night. I cant wait to see rd.2 @ FH..

I agree and if the JV/freshman games are any indication Alco basketball may be looking at its last title contender for a while.

any chance Teddy steps down after this year? His boy a senior?

I wasn't at the game and not crying about officials, but alco attempts 43 foul shots compared to fh's 8???

Red Dude, it seemed lopsided, but I didn't realize it was that lopsided. I've seen several sources site that spread as the margin so it must've been pretty lopsided. That still seems very high for Alco's foul shots (I would've though it was more like 22-8 or so). But it was very evident they shot more.

I was at the game. And unfortunately, I go into most local games concerned about officiating, overall. Consistent local basketball officiating is hard to come by. It seemed as though Alco was getting fouled (or getting the calls) on their drives, hence getting two shots or and-1's. FH was getting fouled on the floor. FH did not get into the bonus in the first half, and didn't get into the bonus until mid 4th period in the second. From memory, Alco was in the double bonus both halves.

I think it has a lot to do with FH's style of play, they play a very aggressive defense, and I LIKE that. But, what happens is local officials get hung up on that - they pigeon hole a team as the more aggressive team. So while there may be the occasional hack foul while FH is trying to defend inside shots or layups...there seems to be a lack of reciprocation on the calls going the other way. And there is a LOT of anticipation calls against aggressive teams, under the assumption they are going to foul.

Long story shorter, the fouls notwithstanding, even with the disparity...Fort Hill had two very good chances to win at the end and just missed them. And for the first time in I don't know how long, FH may have very well led in rebounds. Or at least been within a few. THAT was huge.

FH played a better overall game. But Alco hit the shots when they needed them. I'm looking forward to the rematch.

Thanks for the comment, but 43 and 8 in a close game?????? You were there and I wasn't so I'll leave it at that!!

I was there and yes it was evident that the Refs weren't going to let Fort Hill come out of the game as the winners. But the Officiating in Basketball in the area has been poor for the last forty years. I just wish that I could be consistent when it comes to local schools. FHHSAHS was being kind but I'm too old to bite my tongue. I don't think that we have three good Basketball Refs in the area and the three at the game Friday night are unethical or stupid, or maybe even both.

They (the local Refs) really aren't doing Alco any favors, they get these calls locally but get beat when they go out of the area in the playoffs and want to complain about the refs everywhere else.

Lol, just so I get this correct, you're saying the basketball refs are "unethical" and biased against FH?

I just want to clarify, I think they aren't very good in general. Not biased. :)

I said that they could be one, or the other, or both. I don't know what's on their mind but I do see how they call the game.

Bowie and C.H. Flowers advertising for a Week 1 football game next year. Made offers but no responses. Any pull there?

I actually think you gave a very fair summary of the game. I have zero problems with what you said. High School officiating is usually inconsistent

Bowie doesn't have a head coach or staff right now. After they hire someone I will get back in touch with you. I'm not sure what's going on over there because they usually have good teams. This will be the second year in a row with a new staff. They also have good youth league feeder programs so hopefully they can get it together.

Bowie and Flowers are advertising for a Week 1 but many times those schools don't respond. To me, if I advertise games I either return the reply even if the answer is no or remove the advertisement when the spot is filled if I don't want people contacting me anymore. But that's me. I do realize ADs also work in many capacities and wear many hats so their time is limited. However, these things take like 30 seconds.

The emails I have received saying no thanks is into the 20 or 25 count range. Mostly all from 3A and 4A and some private schools...teams that had winning records. I saved them all. Although I must say that getting a response that says "no thanks, we are looking for something more suitable" gets my respect...at least they answered and are honest. Through all of these scheduling conversations, the biggest concern with most ADs and coaches is this playoff thing. Worried about how their schedule affects the ability to make the playoffs. Or that their region is going to be very difficult. This is not just a Western Maryland thing please trust me when I say this. It also carries over into West Virginia big time. Oddly enough, I get the same response from some of the MIAA league opponents who share an opening. They don't have a playoff to contend with so I don't know anymore? It's not good.

Bowie isn't a top 50 MD program though.

I disagree. Bowie is usually a Top 50 program. This year was tough for them, but when you actually have to play good teams week after week you're going to lose a few games. When you're in a conference with Wise and Roosevelt you're basically starting the season with two losses.

Is your NationalChamps email still good?
