Catoctin HC Doug Williams retires

I get the point but he could've went 0-9 and still went out on top. You'd be hard pressed to find someone in the Catoctin community that had a negative comment about the man. There were periods were people questioned if the game had passed him bye, seemingly refusing to abandon the tight wing t. But he is absolutely loved around here. We weren't any good when I was there but I wouldn't have changed the experience for anything. It's a happy sad time. I'm certainly happy that he will yet to relax but it's sad to see the end of an era. I had selfishly and unrealistically hoped my boys would play for him some day. Kind of thought he would be there forever.

By your response I take it it was something of a surprise?

Yes and no. I think it's a surprise from the view that he has been there so long you just kind of expect he would always be there, if that makes sense. But hes at the point he can retire, so it's not really a surprise he would take advantage of it. He said it's a young man's game, very demanding. The article in the paper he stated he wanted to leave the program in a good place so he feels this is a good time. They return some key pieces, it seems to me he thinks it will make the transition easier.

I really respect this decision. He’s leaving the next coaching staff a solid team. Many other coaches would have hung on a few more years until the chamber was empty.

Someone started a petition 4 hours ago to name the field after him. It's already over 1000 signatures. Pretty good examples of how the people in this community feel about him.
I have to say , I attended the FH/Catoctin Game and actually loved the stadium/atmosphere. Yeah its not Greenway, but actually felt like a old fashion high school game, grass field, small bleachers. Brought back memories like playing at Jefferson, Hedgesville, White Plains (McDonough)
