The Big Blue knocks FH out of the playoffs and advances to take on #2 Southern thurs. night @ Campobello... Alco has a local streak going similar to FHS football Streak in the region. I believe this was their 25th straight... Good Luck Big Blue lets get it done this yr.. In other post-season basketball news Williamsport beat Mountain Ridge 72-51 Keyser beat Petersburg 67-54 Frankfort beat Berkeley Springs 61-59..

When FH wins something which is only one sport, we are here pretending we care. They disappear and say they dont like any other sports. Maybe its because they lose every other sport.

I'm red & white. There is nothing to say. Alco is leaps and bounds better in boys basketball than anyone in this area the past few years. All you can do is tip your hat and wish good luck down from here on out. The Alco baseball team is in the same boat. You have to give credit to Ted Eirich and Scott Bauer for the job they do with their programs. It sucks watching FH hoops and baseball be so dismal as of late.

Good luck the rest of the way. Looks like Lake Clifton might be the team to beat.

Unfortunately, this looks like the norm at 1A.

One team dominating the rest of the area. Don't really have to worry about polls anymore. There is usually going to be one team above everyone else, and everybody else fighting for second or third.

Outside of Baseball and Basketball...FH pretty much beats Alco in everything else. Volleyball, Football, softball (maybe..not sure about that one I think that's pretty competitive), Bowling, Track, etc..

I mean..enjoy dominating local basketball, Alco is very good - but seriously, don't downplay FH's other sports in which they are winning locally and winning some state titles recently while Alco is doing good "locally" in basketball.

I care about basketball, I certainly wish FH had a better season, but be realistic.

Actually, it's pretty much just football and volleyball for Fort Hill. They aren't even good locally at the others.

Softball has been split, no one considers bowling a sport. Track and tennis aren't team sports, but will say that Fort Hill usually wins these over Allegany, but not other local schools.

Fort Hill hasn't won an area or state title in any sport except football or volleyball in five years.

Fort Hill is very good at those two, but no reason to exaggerate in all other sports. Maybe they beat Allegany, but aren't anywhere close to competing for area titles.

My exaggeration is done for some level of effect. Much like the original person downplayed ALL other sports from FH other than football. My point is, there is ONE city school that has won state titles in multiple sports over the last 10 years. Football, volleyball, and softball. Mountain Ridge is the only other school in the county who can also boast multiple titles in multiple sports over the same time frame.

Not to say Alco doesn't have a long history of winning football titles, as well - obviously, they know how to do that. Just not recently. I mean, we can all nitpick anyway we want - the bottom line is both schools have a long history of winning. It may ebb and flow, and it is currently tilted a little more to the south side - but I'm sure it will tilt back. It always does. And when it does, the Alco crowd will be back on MDHigh posting about it.

The way I look at it, from a basketball standpoint doesn't waiver though. Alco has 7 tournament appearances in the last 20 years and no title. Fort Hill has 5 appearances and no title over the last 20 years. If we're counting tourney appearances, then yeah Alco is a basketball school. If we're counting state titles, they are tied with FH over the same time frame with 0.

And since Alco doesn't count head to head wins over FH as meaningful (we've established that in the Homecoming vs state titles argument many times) then I say the "Alco is a basketball school" moniker is pretty weak outside of local boundaries.
