CAMPER SCRIMMAGE

Agree. HC is a lot of fun when there isn’t an obvious winner. I will say that Alco played very well last year for a half. They shut the run game down for a while and put FH in 3rd and long the whole first half

Well as everyone knows...its about the numbers and staying healthy. So far I am seeing 32 plus on varsity...give or take and about the same on JV. Campers have a talented backfield and some really good size with a lot of returners from last year. Fingers and toes crossed! And thanks for the kind remarks about my health...much better now...THANK YOU ALL... :)

Jailerman, There are around 20 varsity players how do you get 32

The numbers game isn't just an Alco problem. It isn't even just a regional problem. It is a nationwide problem. Notre Dame in WV folded their season just this evening due to only having 13 to 14 guys on the roster and a lot of them didn't even have football playing experience. It is definitely a combination of things that is causing the issues nationwide. There is something to be said for the success and tradition of a program effecting the turnout each year. Another local reason may be the Fort Hill domination of recent. Dynasties are good and bad for the game.

Do you know the Mountain Ridge scrimmages?

The last couple years it has been Southern as the first scrimmage and Boonsboro as the 2nd scrimmage. Not sure if that is going to change this year. I would have bet yes because original schedule had them opening the season with Boonsboro so I doubt they would have kept them as the final scrimmage and then the first game of the year. Now that Fort Hill is the first game and Boonsboro is off of the schedule they might still be the last scrimmage. Last time I asked, which was back in December they didn't know, I will try and find out again in the next couple days.

Powell.... what do you think? He is going surprise a lot of ppl, he has gotten big and can run. He attended college camps this past year. Yes, I have heard a few FH ppl saying how good he will be this year. Everyone knows what Welch has, who else can make a difference will determine how Allegany does. I know they may not be the best team, but they have a really good 1A football team this year.

He looked solid last year as a sophomore he will be a good one to watch.

Allegany has good backs...but do they have a line that can block for them? You can be fast and make people miss, but if you don’t have a hole to run too it’s doesn't matter how good you are. What’s the o line look like?

Believe it not, they have some good size. One boy is over 300 in a good way and the rest range from 225 through 250. Looks like they are going back to old school with smaller but faster guards that used to be the mantra of the 80's and 90's were. I was most impressed with teams fitness. All are bulked up and seem to be very fast and strong. We'll get to see first hand Friday at the scrimmage with N Hag.

I think the scrimmage is with S Hag?

Post some info as soon as you can!!!!!
Tevan Powell will be a solid player as well as Welch (didn’t play because of a hamstring injury)
I counted 19 dressed players and someone behind me said that 3 weren’t dressed. The O-line play is on the side of bad. Running backs were being hit in the backfield a majority of the time. The defense on the first drive was getting gashed on outside runs and quick passes. The second drive, alco brought a lot of blitzes and made some solid tackles in the backfield.
My main take away from tonight was allegany needs to find some size on the offensive line and the ability to control the outside runs or this will be a long season.

Good observation.....Defense is going rely a lot on Christian Welch.

Shame on the O-line since there is some experience there. Sad that they are already hobbling.

Ryan O’Neal didn’t play either, he is one of the better players on both sides of the ball. You shouldn’t take much from this scrimmage

Doesn't Alco have a lineman that won some weightlifting thing or other. Maybe he didn't play either. I don't like reading that the Allegany line is big and soft. That doesn't sound like the ole Allegany to me. Then again, zero depth isn't the ole Allegany either.

I think I remember a couple (few) years back how the Campers moved the ball fairly well against SH. Shows what a difference a couple (few) years can make. If they are down one or two starters this year, will they get by Northern?
