Alijah officially signed over the weekend with the University of Maine. He had several full offers to choose from but evidently it came down to a full ride to Maine or a partial to UMD. It's a good opportunity, Maine has produced a couple of NFL players recently and they have 2 more UFA's from this years class trying to play their way on to a roster.

Hope he's on the travel squad since Maine plays twice in Virginia this year. @ Richmond and @ JMU. Chance to see him play possibly.

Solid program for Alijah. The CAA is regarded as the #1 or #2 FCS conference in the country.

Although it's unlikely he had a partial football-related scholarship to Maryland because FBS teams have 85 full scholarships that they don't divide up among more than 85 players. They either use them all, or keep 1 or 2 in their back pocket for a last-minute JUCO or Grad Transfer to fill an immediate position of need.

FCS teams have a limit of 63 full scholarships that they can and generally do divide up among their roster. It's fairly normal for a kid to get a 1/2 or even 1/4 scholarship to a school like Maine, Delaware, St. Francis, etc. and then have that percentage increase as they play more.

Boyz, not a dig at your knowledge or credibility - just shedding some light on what is usually a confusing subject that's easily fueled by rumors.

How can he get a partial to UMD? Isn't D1 football a head count sport and no partials?

@alco65 yes, see the explanation above.

A lot of times, if there's a preferred walk-on that a D1 school really wants, they can get creative to find ways to get the kid non football-related money to help them, but they usually don't cover 100% of the cost and are not directly affiliated with the football program.

You are 100% correct, I did say partial but I was referring to a preferred walk on offer that would have come with financial assistance (various grants, on campus job, etc.) but it would not have covered the entire tuition.
