For the 2nd year in a row the Alco football program will not have a 9th grade freshman team due to a lack of numbers.

Given the glaring low turnouts at the Braddock youth league program don't expect freshman football to return. Sad.

If Braddock is now struggling to field a team could it be three straight years of alco not having enough for freshman teams? Being that usually the freshman classes seem to have more players as kids decide not to play their sophomore, junior, and senior years doesn't sound good for the future of alco football.

Many Schools don't have Freshman Football in all 4 classes in Maryland and other nearby States.
What is the point in it anyways? when you are in every other Grade you are playing with 2 classes except for Freshman and J.V.
The really good 10th Graders will be on Varsity and The really good 9th graders will get to play on J.V.
Seems wasteful to even spend money on it when the truth is you don't have a Freshman Team The best kids will play on Junior Varsity and The kids that can't cut it and get to play will either play J.V. and work hard to get better or quit telling you they weren't cut out for it in the first place. This is more like participation trophies, everyone doesn't deserve an Award

Again, if you can't find at least fifteen kids to field a freshman football team for 2-3 years then by the time that class is seniors your gonna be hurting. Also, those schools that don't field freshman teams isn't due to not having enough kids. It is common in the larger schools. Here's hoping this new coaching staff turn it around.

Fort Hill is the only public school in Maryland that fields a freshman 9th grade team to my knowledge. If there is a freshman team it's usually something like Manchester Valley did last year where they play about 1 or 2 games by pulling down the kids that don't see much playing time on the JV.

We have had this discussion before. If you have the numbers, frosh football is exceptionally good. When there are over 40 kids from the 9th and 10th grade (I think FH may have close to 50) best to let the younger kids see the field. That is unless you consider playing experience unimportant in developing players.

Many communities downstate don't have freshman teams in high school because the youth leagues have 14 year old teams, which also includes 15 year olds if their birthday is in the fall. I'm not sure about Eastern Shore and Baltimore but I think it's unique that public middle schools like Braddock and Washington field football teams.

Technically, Braddock and Washington do not actually "field" football teams, they are not directly sanctioned or run by the schools. In fact, the Patriots aren't actually called the Washington Patriots, unless I missed that memo.
In soccer, the area JCP League utilizes the Middle School you attend essentially to assign you to a team, and many team names are the names of the Middle School, for example, Mount Savage, Braddock, Washington, Frankfort, Bishop Walsh, but other than possibly BW, the teams are not School sanctioned or controlled.

Correct, they are not called the Washington Patriots, as the Washington mascot is actually the Commanders.

Braddock Warriors Division 1 has 13 players. Those 13 must be studs if the future is good.

had not even considered that, excellent post!

VFW Patriots
AES Patriots
Hartley's/Personal Best Patriots

I remember the above sponsors, but never the Washington Patriots or Commanders.

I thought at one point it was just the Cumberland Patriots but I am not sure.

That was my fault. I didn't talk to Pat, haven't for about a month or so. However, I was watching practice, the conditioning, and commented to a parent about the numbers and was told that Pat had to turn five or six kids away. I knew that Pat usually didn't turn kids away however his numbers, at least two weeks ago, were very impressive. He has a slew of kids, I guess that is why I believed that parent. I hope that Pat didn't take much heat, I really only want to see as many kids play as possible. When I see Pat again, I will apologize to him personally.
