My for what it's worth opinion from the vid....

The Alco BAD: Players who make stupid choices so that they can feel better about themselves at the moment while ignoring how it hurts the team.

The Alco SAD: Robinette is currently the best player in the area but will get no recognition.

The Alco GLAD: Allegany's offensive execution is faster than FH. Bratton just keeps getting better. Alco continues to show sparks of brilliance by individuals and occasionally as a team.

MR: Has size, decent running backs and quarterback. Otherwise, they either weren't there to make a play or they couldn't make a play when they were there. I also must mention that they showed a lot of class in such a loss.

Can we say "rose colored glasses"??

All true, not sure about your Alco bad...they make a lot of mistakes. Good post.

I didn't want to name names. But I think the stupid, uncalled for penalties are being followed by a lack of team focus - sort of a 'here we go again' mentality. Alco recovered beautifully against Dunbar and MR instantly let the Campers back in the lead. But CR took advantage and I am concerned that when Alco faces a very good team they will not be prepared.

Maybe one, three and four have validity - sure, I can own some of that. But, the mere fact that you responded to me makes you party to the bullshit around here, and that's a common mistake by those who try to label participation as some kind of moral laxity.

Has everyone seen it? Dunno, I didn't take a census. Creative? Possibly. Appropriate for the comment you posted? Absolutely.

To each his own. That movie was made in 1990. Folks stopped laughing at the 'funny how' scene over ten years ago.

I choose to simply state my case, good or bad. You want to trowel out years old sludge as though it's supposed to engender a laugh and some kind of ridicule, fine.

Personally, I think it's because you have nothing to offer to my comments.

Friday night against Allegany was yet another game in which the lack of coaching at Mountain Ridge doomed the Miners' in their attempts of picking up a victory. I wanted to watch the game on video, to confirm what I saw in person, before I commented on this matter.

The Mountain Ridge football program suffers from one thing... bad coaching... and it shows on a weekly basis. Example one of this happened after Mountain Ridge scored the game tying touchdown. The TD tying drive was a perfectly called drive by Coach Patterson. He mixed the pass with the run and drove the ball down the field and tied the game.

The high that those young men were feeling lasted but a few moments as a poorly coached special teams gave up a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and effectively killed all the momentum that you just got by tying the game at 7. We have allowed way too many kickoff return, punt return, and interception return of touchdowns in the past 5 years.

Mountain Ridge had decent luck throwing the ball in the touchdown scoring drive. Their QB had some nicely timed, thrown passes and converted some nice plays. With that being said, you just lost all the momentum you gained by tying the game when you gave up the kickoff return for a score, and what do you do? You throw the ball on first down? That leads to a pick six and all the sudden it is 21-7. I'm sorry but that is bad coaching.

Allegany had 14 points off of Mountain Ridge interceptions, and an additional 7 points on a kickoff return at the half, which meant that half of the points they had at the half was not done by the offense. The other half was scored by the Allegany offense and was given up by the Mountain Ridge defense. The Miners' defense has hit an all-time low. Giving up 60+ points in back-to-back weeks??? Unacceptable!!! Allegany running back getting 15+ yards down field without being touched. Some of the scores the running back for Allegany wasn't touched at all. Piss poor defensive strategy by the Mountain Ridge coaching staff.

Mountain Ridge gave up 28 points on turnovers and kickoff returns. The special teams play for Mountain Ridge has been horrible since they started play in 2007. They have given up kickoff returns, punt returns, had kicks blocked. Terrible exection of kick coverage. All of this is coaching. I'm sorry to say it but it is absolutely coaching. I am looking down at the sidelines following the Campers fourth touchdown, putting them up 28-7, attempting to see what type of adjustments, coaching was happening and what do I see??? Mountain Ridge coach on their cell phone not paying any attention at all. Just pathetic if you ask me.

What is the answer? At this point... it is clean house time. Everyone needs to go... everyone!!!
Does Mountain Ridge need to drop football for a while? This has been a prolonged down period for the Ridge. I sure hope it doesn't come to that.

The officials had a rough night. They had a phantom hold on a Mountain Ridge play early in the second quarter. Didn't really affect the game as MR lost yardage on the play anyways so Alco declined the penalty. They also missed a clear hold on #62 on the second to last Alco touchdown in the first half. #25 for Allegany should have been ejected in the first half after his second unsportsmanlike conduct/personal foul penalty of the game. I know that HSFB doesn't have the same rule as NCAA and the NFL has when it comes to that. Both late hits were totally uncalled for and as cheap of a shot as you can have. Seems to have a bit of a anger problem. Alco had another cheap shot in the fourth quarter on a punt. Not happy to see that.

An exemplary post from one of the true gentlemen in this forum.... and Lord knows I am not one of them.

From my gut, I can state that when players commit cheap shots after being up like that, I would rather lose like MR than win like Allegany. I can almost excuse a late emotional hit when you are getting crushed, but what I saw in the vid erased the victory. That is why I started the thread with 'the BAD'.

In truth, the uncalled for Alco penalties started early. The minute Allegany scored the first touchdown there was a stupid push in the back in front of the endzone. That is why I made my comment that some players just do whatever makes them feel good regardless of the results. That very penalty allowed MR to start their touchdown drive at near midfield.

Maybe all this stuff is life-learning for the self indulgent young athlete. At least I hope so.

I can't take anything away from Robinette who, once he got through the line, did the same thing to the athletes of Dunbar. I believe he is that good. He can leave a lot of good players flatfooted when he cuts in the open field and knock down just as many when they try to tackle him.

Overall, when it comes to not adjusting or keeping your players in control.... yes, it is coaching or lack thereof.

I agree with the bad coaching.. I seen players on the sideline running around playing not even paying attention to the game...

Their is some good play and excitement brewing at the Youth League level for Mountain Ridge. I would like to see this positive momentum carry on with this group into high school. Uphill climb with all that is going wrong at the high school level but let's all pull for the kids.

Uhh, No. 2 applies to many more Fort Hill people than Allegany. Most people would think driving to Pittsburgh to waste a weekend afternoon/night watching high school football is the definition of SAD. Yet Fort Hill people actually brag about how they have nothing better to do and wear it as a badge of honor, trying to shame others for actually having a life.

Insightful counterpoint. Consider too those who complain about blowouts at the stadium but would drive to Pittsburgh and rejoice in a blowout.

For those of you - and you know who you are - who are ready to knee-jerk on these comments, try to take them in their finer points and not think, "Oh my God! A shot at FH! I'm gonna post that meme I saw."

Remember, Facebookery is douchebaggery.

No, the definition of SAD is when Allegany folks won't go across town to support their own team.

I think it's crazy to call it sad for people to go to Pittsburgh to watch a high school football game. Why? I mean who are we to tell other people what to do with their time? Why is what anyone else was doing during that stretch of a few hours any more or less? Were other people out saving the world during that time rather than watching football? I went to the game, I went with friends, we had a great time, just a change of scenery for the day. Nice stadium, right in the heart of Pittsburgh, all the sights and sounds to see...we fellowshipped with each other over some grub, made a few stops along the way and back home...good memories were made. How is fellowshipping with friends in a different environment than the norm SAD. I can assure you, for every high school football game we attend, myself and my friends do 20 other interesting things and go 20 other interesting places. So what if on that day we chose to spend a few hours representing our alma mater in the Burg? You think people who attend football games only attend football games or that those who think it SAD to do so are really doing anything more interesting. We all decide how to spend our time and what to support.

I like your comment. All the SAD comments need to be kept in context, just like the SAD post about Alco folks not going across town. Or, remember my initial SAD comment about Alco player antics.

Nah, the definition of SAD is having so little life a high school football team is the most important thing in the world. Waiting outside the locker room to get a sniff of a FH player's jock is sad. Do stay in denial, though.

I think its sad that you don't find it sad that you have so little life you'll drive to Pittsburgh to watch high school football. Its sad to brag and take pride in that. Its sad to live vicariously through high school football players.

Ignore OneDing. He disappears on this forum when Alco gets their ass handed to them 10 times in a row. Breaks out his ballcap when he thinks Alco does something great. Or FH gets a rare loss. Then disappears when the yearly beating comes. In short you have a person posting on a high school football forum trying to tell other people to get a life. Are you kidding me? What a dipshit.

Live vicariously, nah, it's more entertainment...good bang for the buck 14 out of the 365 days in the year. On top of entertainment, it's good to throw some support to these kids, maybe if whom I know, hey work hard.

Besides, say 2 hours of the trip was the game, the remaining what 5 hours was good times doing non football related things in a different environment. So if some people decided to head to Pittsburgh for the day, is that sad? Hanging out, checking the sites, living it up? It's friends hanging out. So when you add in that 2 of those hours were spent watching a football game, does that automatically make it sad? Whatever.

Maybe if more folks gave time to the youth in the area we could make a big difference in some lives.

Impossible to disagree with that. Broken homes, both parents working or the myriad of other things that leave young men directionless and pretty much fending for themselves.

I honestly believe that getting young men into competitive sports is one the most beneficial things you could do for them. Not everyone can make the first team, but there should be something there to challenge them both physically and mentally.

How is it any different than driving to Pittsburgh to see a Steelers game? or to Baltimore to see the Orioles? or to DC to see a concert?

It's a heck of lot cheaper and just as much fun to watch a high school game as it is the NFL. I have seasons tickets at FedEx and if I was given an ultimatum to either give up those tickets or stop traveling to watch FH, I would most likely give up the NFL tickets. Cheaper tickets, cheaper food, and more people you know than at an NFL stadium. People like Onering just hate to see something they are not part of or have not experienced.

For Cumberland, the attachment is an intangible deeper than a sporting event. You can go home again and again in a couple hours at the stadium. I feel sorry for anyone who does not have a place to go to for an experience so elegantly simple and zen-like. There is nothing vicarious in seeing your own life as a continuum, a very pleasant one.

yep, agreed with participation in organized/ competitive sports. Builds character. But, in today's pussified society everybody has to make the first team. As a matter of fact, we don't even have 1st & 2nd teams....they are a team of equal ability players. This way, EVERYONE is happy being mediocre. Nobody's feeling got hurt. We are in a society where there cannot be a #1 because you may damage someone's psyche. Everybody gets a trophy rather they work for it or not. Rather than have the 2nd team work hard and get better, now in today's society, we lower the 1st string's standards not to offend anyone and create a level playing field. A tough reality they will endure when they hit the work force.
