alco 61 fh 23 3rd qtr

Tale of two completely different halves. FH kept the game close by slowing down the offense and relying on poor shooting from Alco - 6-4 was the first qtr score. And just prior to the end of the first half Alco went on a 6-0 run to make the score at the break 22-14. At that point it was still in reach for the Sentinels, but Alco came out in the third and played lights out - outscoring FH 33-6. At that point, the size and game play differences were far too apparent.

FH was vastly undersized this year with basically a team of guards. Tough season for the Sentinels. But they did scrap together a few nice wins and played a couple games close. Area basketball as a whole is very mediocre, with Alco being light years ahead of the pack. Southern has a good team, but are no match for the Campers. I can't see the Campers even really being challenged in the region, and they should be poised to show strong in the final four.

Only worry is the slow start. On several occasions, even in two of the games against FH, Alco has come out a bit slow and allowed teams to stay in a game who really were overmatched. Then in the second qtr or second half they turn it on. Against better competition they have to watch they don't get too far off their game.

Alco won't be challenged until they get to the Comcast Center, where they will probably have to face two Baltimore teams.

Alleganys starting 5 can play with anyone, problem is they may run into a team with 10 real good players. Good possibility Alco could wear down on the final four. Speaking of southern they have an unbeleivable 7th grade team. With a 6 '2 kid that can play

Agreed, the starting 5 is as good as most in the state. That's the only thing in the way for Alco, is a team with a stronger bench. And/or foul trouble, etc..which keeps their starting 5 limited.

An area team isn't going to win a basketball title for a long time because of the smaller charter schools in B-More city and the way they keep the AAU teams together all year.

I feel ya - Yet, Alco came within a handful of points of doing it last year. It's not like they got destroyed - in fact were winning much of the game.

The difference last year being, that several of the key starting juniors and seniors of this year, came off the bench to provide relief for the starting 5 to keep the game tight. The bench this year is not going to provide that relief as needed. A few different shot selections from the PG last year, and that was Alco's title.
