I was just taking a look at the way the season ended up across the state and found it very interesting when I looked at the 3A North Standings heading into the final week. There were (5) five teams heading into the weekend with 8-1 records. Aberdeen, Franklin, Bel Air, Milford Mill and Patapsco all won this weekend which means one of those teams (more than likely Patapsco) will not make the playoffs but finish with a 9-1 record.

Some may look at it as no big deal, this is the same region where Towson resides, but if you are a coach and your team finishes 9-1... How do you look at your kids and say well I'm sorry boys but it just wasn't enough???[/B]

Personally, I think Maryland's format is better than what Virginia went to last year. They have a 16 team format, per Region (2 Regions for each Diviion), thus, 32 team format per Division, which I believe there are 6 Divisions. There are teams in the playoffs with 5-5 or worse records. I understand it has everything to do with $$$, but it hardly warrants interest to have a 10-0 powerhouse go against a 5-5 team in the first round. Virginia has probably 5 x more schools than Maryland, but that's too many games, IMO.

BTW, TC Williams finished this season with a 2-8 record. They didn't make the playoffs.

In Class 3A Patapsco did not get in the playoffs with a 9-1 record. But City did with a 5-5 record.

Schedule, schedule, schedule. That is what the regional system has created. You have to be smart to understand the process while ignoring your scheduling ego. I hate it but you have to play the cards you are dealt. Would rather be state champion competitor than a team who played a tough schedule. That's the bottom line whether you like it or not.

Your logic makes no sense with this scenario. The 9-1 team must have played an easy schedule and did not get in. The 5-5 team must have played a tougher schedule. How is it better to play a weak schedule finish 9-1 and NOT make playoffs? Please respond.

Not sure if you understand the regional setup.
Patapsco had almost twice as many wins and points as City. When a 5-5 team is making it in over a 9-1 team, we have a problem. That statement shouldn't even require an explanation.

If Allegany played South Carroll, Linganore and South Hagerstown...they would not be in the playoffs this year. So why play them?

I didnt look at points it read that the 5-5 had more points than the 9-1, misunderstood the way I read it
