North point beat Mervo 21-20 in OT in probably the best game of the year. NP stuffed Mervo on a 2 point conversion to win it
Queen City QuadI remembered Mervo. I was impressed with the discipline and the overall conduct of their team. Even the JV's were exceptionally polite and well-disciplined both on and off the field. I thought that it was cool that their coach watched the scrimmages from the stands and not on the field. It was interesting to observe their interactions. BTW, I think that their coaches are doing a fine job.
Patuxent leads Dunbar 8-0 at the half. Dunbar has had a player ejected for unsportsman like conduct.
Pax leads 8-6 after 3.
The QB for that North Point team also had some pedigree. Pretty sure he was committed to one of the D1 HBCU’s. Forget where they finished in 4A that year, but they were pretty damn good in that scrimmage.Queen City Quad
Mervo - 2018
North Point - 2013, 2014, 2017
I remember in 2017 North Point had a massive Offensive Tackle who signed with Penn State. He was every bit 6'8 and over 300 lbs. Luke Hamilton had the task of playing defense across from him. While Luke was not really a DT in physical form, nobody was getting around that big OT. Can't remember his name.
Lost to QO in the 4A semis.....40-21.The QB for that North Point team also had some pedigree. Pretty sure he was committed to one of the D1 HBCU’s. Forget where they finished in 4A that year, but they were pretty damn good in that scrimmage.
They are projected to lose about 300 students. So their early projection for the new realignments have them in 1A.Is it true that Patuxent is coming 1a next year?
To beat Dunbar several things have to happen. You have to have some athletes, size, and good coaching. They will have a backup plan and they can run or throw. Patuxent had those and it was displayed on Dunbars very first play when they broke into the secondary for a long gain but the Patuxent db chased him down at about the 15...they never scored. If you don't have your fastest players on the field then Dunbar scores on that play. Patuxent was run run run but threw in a five or six yard pass numerous times as well as placing three wide outs on almost every play which did not allow Dunbar to stack the box with 11 players. Patuxent was the beneficiary of a lot of Dunbar penalties and fumble on a snap when they were about to score. It didn't hurt they had a very large crowd which was very vocal on every single Dunbar offensive play. It takes a hell of a lot to beat Dunbar, Patuxent should be very proud to get that title.Patuxent wins 8-6.
Also Dunbar committing 11 penalties almost all of which directly related to ending a drive or preventing a score, fumbling a 4th down snap in pat territory, throwing an interception in pat territory, the 4 or 5 drops and bad snaps that lead to busted plays and patuxent getting the bounce on the jet sweep fumble with 45 seconds to go in the game. Patuxent played good but Dunbar did more to lose this game than Patuxent did to win it. I was rooting for Patuxent but this was not the same Dunbar that everyone is used to seeingTo beat Dunbar several things have to happen. You have to have some athletes, size, and good coaching. True. That was very sloppy. Dunbar wins by that sword or dies by that sword. They win in those games more than not. I felt the same way in 2008 title game. FH had a dozen opportunities to put that game away and failed. Hurts still just to bring it up.True. That was very sloppy.
