2019 season

FH is still going to be the best. Allegany may be decent but does anyone really believe that? They return the “best backfield in the area” as they were called by a poster last year but look where it got them last year. Northern should be decent, southern will be on the side of bad rather then good, and mountain ridge will be bad.

This is Alcos year. They weren’t real far off last year and had mostly juniors and a sophomore. Now they work most of the year and they don’t like losing anymore.

I really do hope that Allegany is back to the top and competing for the Area Championship again. Say what you want to say but football is better around here when Allegany is winning games and reaching title games. I hope that Mountain Ridge can start competing with all area schools on a more consistent level starting this season.

I don't know what it is but it seems like every year there is something that holds Allegany back from being the team it could be. I know many have discussed and have their opinions.

I agree. It's a lot better when the competition is good across the board. Fort Hill will still be top dog, more so because of the offense. Allegany will be good since they return a decent amount. Northern and Southern should be decent, and Mountain Ridge might be able to pull something decent off

This group been starting varsity since they were sophomores. They have the experience, strength and speed. Their sophomore year they took a beating, last year they showed some improvement, this year will be their year

If you think Allegany is not working all year you are wrong. Also Allegany had more than just :"a sophomore" I believe they had 6 and most of them played all season

Alco moved almost half the JV to varsity last season just to field a team. Any other year when the numbers were not dismal they don't get moved up. That's why their JV team was horrible.

It wasn't half the JV team it was 6 kids. Yes the JV team was not very good but I guess there were 4 teams worse than they were in this area

i just wanna hear your oppions on why you rank southern below 2 of the teams they beat last year and handled them as jv?

The fact that their backfield is considered "the best" around their line will not hold up to get their backs out of the backfield against good teams like fort hill, southern, and boonsboro

Believe me.. I hope Alco has a good year more than anyone, and not just because I'm an Alco guy or even because I believe that both city schools having strong programs is good for everyone. But returning a lot of starters who've played together for a few years now aside, we haven't seen a lot over the past two seasons that shows us that Alco is setting up to be the best team in the area.

I know Hansel is a great guy, works very hard and is as dedicated as they come. But the biggest overall difference in FH and Alco is that FH is a complete program from top to bottom. They operate extremely well, and they prove that by reinventing themselves every year and having a ton of success.

2019 will be a tell tale season for us as far as being a program is concerned. If we can get back to beating everyone else in the area and competing with Fort Hill, that's a move in the right direction. But I have to put FH as the preseason area favorite until we or anyone else beats them, even if it is a rebuilding year for them.

I think last year was southerns 1 shot to do something. Northern should get better this year and alco is alco. The big reason I have alco ahead of southern is that their head to head will be at greenway and because alleganys schedule is pretty bad. I just see southern taking a step back this year.

i see southern coming out on top due to Them feeling like they gotta prove them selves to everyone saying their not as good or their mediocre southern has a strong schedule due to them striving "wanna be the best you gotta beat the best"

Can Alco end the streak of having a starter ejected from a game right before Homecoming. Can Alco start tackling with the same enthusiasm they display carrying the football.... and - last but not least - can Alco put another Bratton on the field that throws a forward pass.

All the above is somewhat... sort of... maybe achievable, but overcoming their forever future lack of depth is not.

i believe that with this junior class having the experience and the success they had as jv players they should be good and i highly believe they will beat fort hill
FH will return most of the o line the running backs will be a solid group. Defense will be the question. But that aside the game will be played at greenway. Southern had one shot last year the regular season game this coming season will be about like the playoff game of last. Hopefully there's no bullshit excuses this year from southern

What 2 teams above Southern did they handle as JV? If you are taking Alco, you are dead wrong. A bad Allegany team beat Southern last year and the year before that I believe Alco won 6-0

This senior class at Allegany shouldn’t have lost their 8th grade year, they wouldn’t have lost much if they played JV and they will be good this year and no Southern will not beat them

Do you mean their junior class (next year)

The sophomore class, juniors next year is a really good class of kids. What they make of it will be up to the kids and coaching staff
I would like to see alco have a competitive squad. Makes for a more interesting season.

It will be fort hill out of the west.. maybe Morgantown will be a good game.. any 1a west team wont... you keep that in mind and the rest of the west might be fun to watch this year...lmao..

Can we get Fairmont sr in Cumberland? That might make a good game for fort hill.. need a home n home frfr..

I agree with most on here with the rankings. FH is 1 and always will be until they are beaten and more than once . ALCO did have some speed and talent in the backfield that I think puts them as a solid #2. Northern and Southern are both similar programs this year but Southern gets the nod with a few big boys on the line. MR is a big question I think. How much will the Luke Mill closing directly effect their numbers and the resulting ripple effect for the region? Finally, I know we are mostly talking MD schools, but I think Frankfort could be a very solid team in the area. So much so that I would probably rank them #2 on this list. Their incoming junior class is a very talented group that have won on every level and in multiple sports. That combined with a very good coach leads to a very tough falcon squad this year.
